Cell Phones, Headphones, and Earbuds

·         Cell/headphones/earbuds use are not permitted in classrooms, offices or restrooms.

·         Cell/headphones/earbuds phone use is permitted at arrival, dismissal, in the cafeteria, and in the hallways.

·         If any of these devices are being used at an inappropriate time or in an inappropriate area, they are picked up by a teacher or an administrator and are subject to a parent/guardian pick-up in the front office.  No fee.

·         Refusal by a student to surrender any of these devices is a day of ISS (noncompliance with school official) if the device is not surrendered to the requesting teacher or adult.  This is accompanied by a referral to an office where the same request will be made by an administrator. A refusal to the administrator will result in the ISS being elevated to a day of OSS.

Use of headphones or earbuds in the hallway will not be considered as an excuse for not responding to teachers or following building expectations or rules.  As such, students should exercise discretion with volume and use. Please help us by visiting with your students on this matter before the school year starts.

It is also important to take the time to visit with your student about the contents of Texas Penal Code (21.15), as we take these matters very seriously and any violation may mean police involvement.

(b) A person commits an offense if, without the other person's consent and with intent to invade the privacy of the other person, the person:

(1) photographs or by videotape or other electronic means records, broadcasts, or transmits a visual image of an intimate area of another person if the other person has a reasonable expectation that the intimate area is not subject to public view;

(2) photographs or by videotape or other electronic means records, broadcasts, or transmits a visual image of another in a bathroom or changing room;

Finally, it is important to note that the student assumes personal responsibilities for all electronic devices brought to campus.  This includes not leaving any device unattended, the use or content of any social media platform account associated with your student, or any damages that result from bringing a device to campus.

Per page 42 of the student handbook; “The school will not be liable for loss or damage due to theft, negligence or any other circumstance.”
